Scope of this policy

This policy explains how remits.ca handles personal information when you visit the site. It is written to reflect the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law.

remits.ca is a general-information website. You do not need an account to use it, and we do not ask for your financial details, identity documents, or transfer instructions.

What we collect

We collect two kinds of information:

• Usage data. Our analytics measure pages visited, time on page, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and the site that referred you. We configure analytics to anonymise IP addresses.
• Messages you send us. If you email the editorial team, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.

Cookies and analytics

remits.ca uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides are useful and where pages need work. Google Analytics sets cookies and similar identifiers in your browser.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can use browser extensions that limit analytics scripts. Blocking analytics does not restrict access to any content on the site.

Why we collect it

Usage data helps us see which pages are read, which are not, and where readers leave. That informs what we write and what we fix. Email is used only to answer your message or handle a correction.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles or to target you with ads on this site.

Third parties and retention

Google Analytics is operated by Google. Data collected through it is processed by Google on our behalf under Google’s terms and privacy policy. We do not share personal information with other third parties except where the law requires it.

Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in our analytics property; Google’s default for event data is 14 months. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with the request and to keep a record of corrections.

Your rights under PIPEDA

Under PIPEDA you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and withdraw consent to non-essential collection such as analytics.
